Does it hurt?
Modern acupuncture needles are extremely fine so that treatment is usually almost painless; you feel a tiny pinprick as the needles goes through the skin followed by some sensation such as a dull ache.
A tugging feeling and warmth or tingling as the energy of the point is reached may occur. The needles are normally left in about 20 to 30 minutes before being taken out.
How many treatments will I need?
Treatment periods vary from a couple of days to several months. The practitioner should be able to give you some idea how long yours will be after one or two treatments. At first you will need to be seen at least once a week, and as the treatment starts to take effect the sessions can be spaced out more.
Are there any side effects?
If you had experienced a good practitioners job you should have no side effects.
The needles we use are sterilized (the packet is opened in front of you) and disposable (they are thrown away after a single use), so there is no possibility of spreading infection.
